This first weekend of August was a long weekend, but thanks to some flex days Jim had at work, he made it an extra-long weekend, having six days off in total. We didn't do a lot, and a few of the days we didn't leave the house. But, we did get out for a short walk in Fish Creek Park, had an afternoon at Heritage Park, cooled-off before dinner one night at the beach near our house, ate corn on the cob, played with new toys, and did a day trip to Discovery Wildlife Park to see the animals. It sounds like a lot when I type it out, but spread out over six days, it was the perfect mix of activity and having fun at home. Which is really just the way we like it. Call it a stay-cation if you will, "stay" being the operative word!
Hope you all had a great long weekend! Let me know what you got up to in the comments!
sounds like fun! i look forward to doing stuff like this on weekdays when my mom is here! it's too crowded on weekends for most places :(
ReplyDeleteYa, doing things during the week is way better than on the weekends!
DeleteLooks like a perfect weekend! You got some great photos of your little adventures. And Sully's outfit at Discovery Wildlife is so stinkin' adorable!
ReplyDeleteI admit that while I feel like I need to take advantage of my kid free time, I sometimes just prefer to be at home doing nothing.
Now I know why you were sad Liam outgrew that hat! I will be too one day.
DeleteI rarely get kid-free time, unless I leave the house when Jim is home, but even when Jim is home and I could go out, usually I just want to stay home and read, or, nothing, haha.
Being a homebody would make me a lot more productive! I get antsy by noon if we have not got out yet. But I think you guys did a lot on the long weekend! How did you like the zoo?
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of Sully eating corn!
Haha somedays it's a struggle to get out of the house before noon - we are SO not morning people ;) The zoo was fun! It was practically dead and it's great being able to let him run around while also looking at the animals. Can't say I would need to go back anytime soon though - not a TON to look at, but glad we went!
DeleteFinding that balance has been something I too have been striving for with a little guy. I want him to experience cool things, but I also want him to work on playing at home with what he has (and us!).
ReplyDeleteIt's true - experiences are awesome and obviously contribute to an enriched childhood, but I also don't want my kid to grow up *expecting* to do fun things outside of the home every single day.
DeleteWe did that too last weekend! Mike took Thursday and Friday off and we relaxed two days and were active the other two days. It was really nice. The pictures of Sully in his shark swimsuit and little newsboy cap are so cute!

I'm sad the shark suit won't fit after this summer :( It's my favourite! I think a balance on days off is a must! Otherwise we head back into the busy week feeling unrested.
