This isn't the first winter he's worn boots, but you wouldn't know it from the way he walks when you first put them on him. It's really quite hilarious and Jim was able to catch a quick video of Saigon prancing around the house in them. Saigon also makes sure to let us know what he really thinks of his new boots at the end of the video. Priceless.

Saigon Sundays: New Shoes
Confession: Jim and I are totally those people who buy booties (mukluks) and coats for their dog. Saigon may be 80 pounds, but he's got little paws and a really short coat. He often can't get through a walk in the winter without favoring his paws, holding them up for a few seconds at a time to get them off the snow. Since he had his stroke last year, his bad leg has a hard time keeping grip on the slippery sidewalks, so booties really help his leg from sliding out all over the place. Not to mention, the booties prevent him from coming home and licking his paws like crazy after the walk, making them even more raw. And really, he just looks so darn cute in them!

Aww! Booties really are better for them ... I just wish ours would keep them on! We have one pair (or two? since there are 4 in a package) and we usually have to go hunting for at least one of them in the snow each time one of the dogs wears them. I wish they'd keep them on!
ReplyDeleteHe's actually really good at keeping them on! The odd one will go flying off if he's running through snow, but he'll stop and let me put it back on. They use so much salt and stuff on our sidewalks around here that the boots prevent Saigon from licking it off his paws when he gets home. They do add a lot of time to getting ready for a walk, that's for sure! Lol.
DeleteWe got my dogs booties once and they took them all off before we even got outside! They really didn't like them. It's hard to keep them on when they have such tiny legs. :P
ReplyDeleteWe also buy our dogs clothes though, and they like those! Although sometimes they'll take them off, too. :P I did find some adorable little hoodies for them from American Apparel though and they like those. My dachshund loves putting her coat or sweater on because she knows it means that she gets to go outside. :)
Hopefully, Saigon kept his booties on when he went outside! :D
Haha, do they just pull them off with their teeth? I bet they are hard to keep on little doggies! Even Saigon has pretty dainty paws for a large dog and we have to make sure they are pretty tight.
DeleteHow the heck do your dogs take their clothes off?! That's hilarious! Saigon loves to be warm, so he's more than happy to have a sweater on ;)
They do pull them off with their teeth, or they roll around until they're off, or just shake them. Sometimes they even just fall off, especially on my dachshund because her legs are just so short. :P Awe, are those booties the ones with the velcro straps or another kind?
DeleteThey're little houdinis! They pull their front legs out of the arms and then wiggle it down to their waists and jump out! Sometimes they'll leave them on, but sometimes I think they just like to wiggle out of them! haha Saigon clearly likes to be clothed more than my dogs. :P They just like to squirm out of them, but they do keep them on when they're cold usually. It's pretty cute. :)
He looks so darn adorable in those booties! It was so funny when he was walking and kicking his back legs out haha. Thanks for sharing the video. <3
ReplyDeleteI get a kick out of his little prance everytime! It never gets old lol.
DeleteAwww, that's just so cute!! Haha, Saigon is adorable!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love it when dogs do that! So silly and cute. We also had to get booties for my childhood dog because he was a poodle and would also get lumps of icy snow between his toes and yelp. I remember he wouldn't be too impressed with us when we first started putting them on him and do his high-stepping thing everywhere, but after a few years he would get used to it and maybe hopefully appreciate that we weren't trying to punish him!
ReplyDeleteahahahahah that's so cuteeeee!!! Saigon is a rebel, I can tell. I can tell that he & I will be great friends ;)
