Saigon Sundays: Change is Scary

Don't be fooled by Saigon's size or his breed. He's actually quite the baby and is scared of the silliest things. Like vacuum's, brooms, ladders...all those scary household appliances! He's also very wary of anything new - like this new dog dish we bought him yesterday.

He was so worried that he actually cried a little bit and I had to hand feed him the first few bites.  Which I also had to repeat today. And will probably have to repeat tomorrow. Until he figures out that it's just his dish, but raised. He's a funny one. Jim was able to get a quick video of Saigon's first reaction to the new dish.

  1. Poor Saigon! Though, my dogs can attest to his unease. Cooper used to be afraid of EVERYTHING! The neighbours once covered their tomato plants and he cried and growled at them for the longest time. Or, we'd take him for a walk on garbage day and he'd go nuts over all the MYSTERIOUS black bags that were on the street! Don't even get me started on the in-house vacuum vents ... they're STILL scared of them!

Thanks for sharing! I hope he gets better with the new dishes. :) They're very nice!

    1. I'm happy to report that no hand-feeding was required today lol! A little left over steak from last night probably didn't hurt ;)

Where do our dogs get these silly fears from?! It's not like we ever chased Saigon with a vacuum or used it to punish him somehow! He's not scared of my blow dryer though, which I find odd.

  3. Oh, my goodness, that is absolutely adorable! I love Pit Bulls and I'm sure you feel the same whenever anyone thinks that they're a mean breed. It's all about nurture versus nature with any dog. Clearly, he's an adorable guy that is a delightful sweetheart! I've been considering getting those raised bowls for my Roma as well. I'm sure she would have a fairly similar reaction! :) Great video!!

    1. Thanks, Natalie! I've been keeping my eye out of months for raised dishes, but I just kept seeing the big plastic ones which I find ugly since Saigon's dog dish isn't hidden away (I had it in the pantry but it was beside the broom which he didn't like lol). He seems to be used to them already - no hand feeding required today! ;)

  5. That is the most adorable dog dish ever! If my dogs weren't tiny, I'd want it for them...but I'd probably have to do the same thing as you, my dogs are big babies, too. :P My chihuahua won't even drink water in a dish other than the ones he's used to until you've let him lick some off of your fingers first. He also does the whole "see monkey, do monkey" thing. He won't eat something new until he sees you eat it, or our other dog. :P It's crazy. Gotta love dogs and their quirks. :D

    1. LOL! Saigon won't drink water on car rides or out on long walks for this same reason. He literally turns his nose up and will twist his head as far back as he can at the offered dish of water I give him. He's so weird lol!
